По сообщению агентства Bloomberg, экономический рост в Китае постепенно укрепляется, и на фоне столь благоприятной ситуации, возможно, будет восстановлен спрос этой страны на медь, согласно прогнозам, с октября 2009 года. Статистические данные металлургической компании Nippon Mining and Metals Co позволяют сделать прогноз, что с октября Китай может начать импорт 200-300 тысяч тонн меди в год. В период с июля по сентябрь объемы импорта будут сокращены. Вероятно, в этом квартале объемы импорта также будут снижены, потому что складские запасы металла стали расти несколько медленнее. Согласно прогнозам UBS AG, КНР будет постепенно снижать объемы импортируемой меди до 100 тысяч тонн в месяц все второе полугодие 2009 года. В первом полугодии 2009 года средний показатель импорта составлял 280 тысяч тонн в месяц. Глaвный упрaвляющий Accoциaции гoрнoдoбывaющeй прoмышлeннocти в Япoнии Oйкoшикo Нaгaтa заявил, что спрос со стороны КНР будет замедлен в летний период, что связано с резким ростом спроса в первом полугодии 2009 года. Тем не менее, господин Нагата далее сказал, что потом спрос вновь увеличится, поскольку работает правительственная программа КНР по поддержке экономики страны. В мае 2009 года согласно таможенным статистическим данным Китай импортировал 337,23 тысячи тонн «красного металла».
